Though Tyga’s “Rack City” is the most middlingest of middling radio rap hits, it’s hard not to admire the late ’90s style nonsensical ambition of the just released official video. RIYL: helicopter chases, bazookas, explosions, ancient sarcophaguses, crazy eyed old men, bubble wrap, candy canes, strippers playing golf while armed with machine guns.
the video isn’t really ashamed of the videos it’s inspired by. it wouldn’t be hard to argue the introduction is almost a shot for shot match to the opening scenes of the “california love” video. obviously there are more. i felt a little bit of “hypnotise” in there, even some “been around the world.” the masks are straight out of “sabotage,” and the binocular view is too. it feels like this is the first video to really try and use a budget to generate more pageviews and up their playcounts.
